Virgin River” tells of the heartwarming romance between Jack and Mel. But the story leaves out a crucial aspect that would have helped the plot decisively.

  • “Virgin River” tells the romantic story of nurse Mel and bar owner Jack.
  • However, even though the Netflix series manages to build a charming romance between the two, the series missed an obvious moment for it.
  • After Jack was shot at the end of Season 2, he seemed to be back to his best by Season 3. However, his recovery would have moved the story forward a lot.
Virgin River: This storyline between Mel and Jack is something the show should not have ignored

Jack Sheridan is one of the main characters in “Virgin River.” His story, along with that of nurse Melinda “Mel” Monroe, is a particular focus in the Netflix series. The two characters fall in love, which causes a stir in the small town of Virgin River. But even though Jack plays an important role, the series misses an important moment that would have added much more depth to Mel’s and his love affair.

Over the course of the four seasons so far, Jack has had to go through quite a bit in “Virgin River.” But probably one of his biggest challenges was waiting for him at the end of season 2. Jack is shot by an unknown assailant. The season ended with this cliffhanger.

Of course, it was therefore assumed that this shocking event will affect the plot of season 3. However, Netflix decided to take a different path – in favor of other storylines. However, this means that the story loses an incredible amount of potential.

“Virgin River” skipped Jack’s recovery

Virgin River: This storyline between Mel and Jack is something the show should not have ignored

Even though Jack was severely wounded by the gunshot at the end of season 2, he seems to be fine by the beginning of season 3. Aside from a few mentions of Jack’s healing process, the aftermath of the shooting is completely ignored.

The creators apparently wanted to restore the status quo from before the attack. This is a curious decision, however; the series eventually played out similar stories of other characters in their entirety.

Ultimately, Jack’s lack of recovery time after being shot. A pacing problem for the series. Timelines get all crazy and events get all jumbled up. As a result, some plots like Jack’s injury make a big jump and other strands have barely moved or changed in that time.

Therefore, Jack’s wound is a missed opportunity

Jack’s gunshot wound becomes an important storyline of the season in “Virgin River” Season 3, but differently than expected. As a result, the series misses an important opportunity. Instead of taking time for Jack’s recovery, “Virgin River” preferred to focus on solving the mystery of the perpetrator. Of course, this is also an important factor for the story, but it somewhat misses the core of the series.

“Virgin River” is a romance and this should be the focus. By skipping Jack’s healing process, the series has given away great potential for just that. Mel came to the sleepy little town as a nurse. She could have helped with his treatment. A bedridden Jack and tender touches from Mel.

The treatment would not have been done overnight. Mel and Jack would have had to spend a lot of intense time together. As a result, viewers would have been allowed to explore a whole new dynamic between the couple.

Netflix took a different approach with its series instead. They built the romance in a different way. But Mel’s treatment would have inevitably offered the series more depth and emotion. A wasted opportunity!
