Is Scream 7 coming? The directing duo behind Part 6 certainly can’t get enough of the Ghostface Killer horror films; more promising hints point to that.
On Thursday, March 10, 2023, the horror sequel Scream VI opens in cinemas and moves the Ghostface murders from Woodsboro to New York for the first time. While it won’t be clear until after that who survives the FSK-18 bloodbath of Part 6, there are now rumours that a 7th Scream instalment has already been secretly released.
No horror ending in sight: is Scream 7 prepared long ago?
After eleven years between Scream 4 and the franchise revival through Scream 5, Scream 6 needed just one year to pick up where its predecessor left off. Accordingly, fans hope they won’t have to wait too long for the 7th part of the series.
Screengeek now wants to know that the horror sequel has long since received the green light from Paramount. Allegedly, the sequel’s shooting is already being prepared for this year. This means that Scream 7 could hit theatres as early as 2024.
Even though Screengeek keeps its source for this sequel knowledge secret, many things speak for it: Scream 5 was enormously successful and popular. With a budget of 24 million dollars, it played 140 million worldwide. Initial voices for Part 6 also spread euphoric reactions before the film’s release. The omens for another sequel within a very short time are, therefore, favourable. In addition, the directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed Scream 5 and 6, expressed their ongoing love for the horror series:
We hope [for a sequel]. Whether we’re involved or not, we want to see Scream movies for the rest of our lives. […] We’re so happy the franchise is back.
In the 6th instalment about the killer in the Ghostface mask, sisters Tara (Jenna Ortega) and Sam (Melissa Barrera) try to find a new footing in New York. But the costumed killer has other plans in Scream VI and changes the rules of his bloody game, which bathes the horror in a new light.
