Soon the shooting of “Venom 3” will begin, again Tom Hardy is on board as Eddie Brock. But how does the story continue after “Spider-Man: No Way Home”?
- In “Venom 3” Tom Hardy returns as reporter Eddie Brock.
- Shooting will start soon, but nothing is known about the plot.
- The cliffhanger from the last film was already resolved in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
With Spider-Man, Sony still has the film rights to one of the most popular Marvel characters, but the attempts to dedicate their own films to the Spidey villains only succeeded to a limited extent. “Morbius” with Jared Leto flopped at the box office and became a laughing stock on the Internet, but “Venom” with Tom Hardy was a surprise success.
The sequel “Venom: Let there be Carnage” didn’t fare quite as well, but Sony was also satisfied with the results and quickly confirmed a third film, which is currently in pre-production, as lead actor Tom Hardy confirmed on Instagram.
So far, however, it is not known how the story will continue in “Venom 3”. One of the reasons for this is that the cliffhanger in the end credits of “Venom: Let there be Carnage,” which sent Eddie and Venom into the universe of the Spider-Man films, was directly undone in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Venom briefly seemed to have it in for Peter Parker, but then Doctor Strange sent all the visitors from the multiverse back to their own universes. The duel between Venom and Spider-Man that Marvel fans were hoping for is therefore unlikely to happen in “Venom 3”.
It is possible that Venom will meet Sergei Kraffinov, also known as Kraven the Hunter, in the new film. In October 2023, the film “Kraven the Hunter” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson will open in theaters, another film about a Spider-Man villain who has to do without Spider-Man.
So Kraven will already be an established character by the time “Venom 3” hits theaters, and Taylor-Johnson already signed on for more Marvel movies from Sony. As soon as filming on “Venom 3” officially starts and the first set pictures emerge, we may know more precisely who Eddie Brock will be up against in theaters in 2024.
