Star Trek 4” is still in the making, this confirms ex-director Matt Shakman, who left the project for “Fantastic Four”. For a long time there was uncertainty about the new film with Chris Pine.

  • “Star Trek 4” is still in production. This clarifies ex-director Matt Shakman.
  • He suspects that Paramount is also still working on the script, which he should have directed.
  • A start date or a new director for “Star Trek 4” have not yet been set.

Star Trek 4″ was first announced for December 2023. “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman has been confirmed as director. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and co. were supposed to return and finally everything went down the book, so to speak. Shakman bailed on a Marvel Cinematic Universe commitment to direct “Fantastic Four,” and the start date was pushed back indefinitely.

Many assumed that Paramount had put the film on hold, but a new statement from ex-director Shakman now suggests that work is still underway on “Star Trek 4.” We had already suspected this, but it’s nice to hear something like this from (ex-)participants as well.

In an interview with US magazine Collider, Shakman is asked about the new “Star Trek” movie. He remains relatively cautious, however, and doesn’t want to reveal too much about the story, because Paramount is said to still be working on the project.

“I think what they’re still working on right now is a version of what I was working on when I was on board,” Shakman explains. His wording clarifies that Paramount is still working on “Star Trek 4” and probably on a new version of the script that Shakman was supposed to direct.

“I’m […] a big fan [of ‘Star Trek’] and it was a real shame that the timing didn’t work out,” Shakman continues. The script, which was to have been directed by him, was written by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”).

Who will become the new director has not yet been announced. A new theatrical release date has also not yet been announced. In the “Star Trek” universe, it continues first with series at Paramount+. On February 17, 2023, “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 will start. We list all other new “Star Trek” releases for you!

When will “Star Trek 4” be released in cinemas?

Star Trek 4: Update from ex-director - still working on the new movie!

The theatrical release for “Star Trek 4” was initially announced by Paramount for December 21, 2023. However, the film has since been pulled from the release date, so there is no official release date. It’s not even clear if work is still being done on the film. However, we actually assume that it is!

Despite the dampener regarding the shelved film, “Star Trek” fans can look forward to numerous new seasons of established series as well as new series. We provide you with the start dates of all “Star Trek” new releases!

Star Trek 4: Is there a trailer?

The film has been pulled back from its 2023 start date, so it’s clear that filming is still a long way off. So a trailer for “Star Trek 4” is still a long, long way off. We will keep you up to date on this front!

Star Trek 4: Casting around Chris Pine

Star Trek 4: Update from ex-director - still working on the new movie!

Even though everything is currently hanging in the balance, the return of the main actors and actresses from “Star Trek Beyond” is said to have a high priority. Meanwhile, most of the stars have expressed that they are also looking forward to returning with their co-stars friends. Only a director as well as a shooting start are still pending.

  • Chris Pine as Captain Kirk
  • Zachary Quinto as Spock
  • Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura
  • Karl Urban as Leonard “Bones” McCoy
  • Simon Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott
  • John Cho as Hikaru Sulu

Chekov actor Anton Yelchin will tragically not return, having passed away in 2016. Producer J.J. Abrams has already confirmed that there were no plans to recast Chekov with another actor. A suitable replacement for Chekov aboard the Enterprise would be Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) from “Star Trek Beyond.”

When the first rumors about “Star Trek 4” surfaced in 2016, “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth was expected to return. Even before he took off in the Marvel universe, he took on the role of Captain Kirk’s father, George, in 2009’s “Star Trek.” It was envisioned to bring Hemsworth back as George Kirk. That idea came from the creators of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”

Star Trek 4: plot

Star Trek 4: Update from ex-director - still working on the new movie!

There is no official plot for “Star Trek 4.” Time travel stories are in the room, if you can believe the rumor mill. At the very least, it would make sense to set up a crossover with the successful series “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Star Trek: Picard”.

After all, the reason that Paramount keeps busy behind the scenes with a new “Star Trek” movie is the success of the “Star Trek” series. Thus, it wouldn’t make sense if the movie and at least one of the series weren’t somehow connected. This becomes especially exciting in light of the fact that the film is set in a parallel timeline, in a different universe.
