In 2020, Seton Academy received a 12-episode anime adaptation. Since then, there has been no confirmation about the second season of the romcom anime. Will Seton Gakuen Season 2 ever happen?
About Seton Gakuen
Seton Academy: Join the Pack or Murenase! Seton Gakuen is a manga by Bungo Yamashita. The manga was serialized online by Cygames through the Cycomi manga app from May 2016 to May 2021 and published by Shogakukan (previously Kodansha) into 15 volumes of tankobon.
The manga is set in a world of the “Survival of the Fittest” where the human population has declined so greatly that the animal population overtakes them. The male represents the form of its respective species, while the female obtains a humanoid form with animal ears (kemonomimi), horns, or tails representing their species.
The story revolves around a human boy who hates animals, Jin Mazama, who enrolls at Seton Academy where the majority of its students and staff are animals. While hoping to catch the attention of the only human female student, Hitomi Hino, Mazama instead grabs the attention of a wolf girl, Ranka Ookami. Hence, their nonsense academy life begins.
Production of Seton Gakuen Anime
In October 2019, Cygames announced that Seton Academy would be adapted into anime series. Animated by Studio Gokumi (A Channel, Tsurezure Children), the anime was directed by Hiroshi Ikehata with Shigeru Murakoshi handling the series composition and Masakatsu Sasaki as the character designer. Here is the main casts line-up for the Seton Academy anime:
- Jin Mazama: Haruki Ishiya
- Ranka Ookami: Hina Kino
- Hitomi Hino: Yume Miyamoto
- Yukari Komori: Misaki Kuno
- Miyubi Shisho: Konomi Kohara
The anime aired from 7 January to 24 March 2020 on several TV platforms, such as Tokyo MX to Animax. Crunchyroll broadcast the anime outside Asian territories, while Ani-One streams the anime on its official YouTube channel for ASEAN and South Asian regions. The anime consists of 12 episodes with an unaired episode included in its third Blu-ray volume.
Will There Be Seton Academy Season 2?
It has been more than three years since the anime ended. Will there be Seton Academy season 2? However, to this date, there have been no talks about the continuation of the series, either from Bungo Yamashita, Studio Gokumi, or the anime team.
In comparison, Studio Gokumi is known to handle Tsurezure Children, a rom-com anime based on the manga by Toshiya Wakabayashi. There are rumors that Tsurezure Children is adapted in order to boost the four-panel or yonkoma manga sales. Considering the same scenario, there is a huge possibility that Seton Academy will not be renewed for more than 1 season because the manga has already ended in 2021.
Potential Story for Seton Academy Season 2
Nevertheless, should Studio Gokumi decide to renew the anime for a second season, there are actually materials enough to make the anime last more than 2 seasons. As a matter of fact, Seton Gakuen season 1 only covers until the 57th chapter of the 9th volume of the manga, with 6 remaining volumes to be adapted into.
The first season tells about how Jin Mazama adapted to the academy while chasing Hitomi and having to befriend Ranka. Joining Cooking Club, Mazama and his friends faced many problems leading up to their confrontation against Team EX, led by a female mammoth, Koorimoto Man. The problem concluded as Team EX make amends with everyone. However, the final episode ends with the Lion King is shown beaten up and told that the insect students of Fabre Academy did those.
While the anime ended in March 2020, one original video animation (OVA) episode aired in July 2020. The OVA is a typical hot-spring episode that shows the female characters of Seton Academy taking their day off after battling the Fabre Academy off-screen.
Season 2 might continue the story from the 58th chapter of Seton Gakuen manga. There are stories such as Mei Mei’s marriage operation, the appearance of Ranka’s father, and other new animal characters who haven’t appeared yet. However, if the anime exists only to boost manga sales, Seton Academy fans shouldn’t hold their breath for the second season.
