Will Star Trek Picard season 3 resolve the Project Khan cliffhanger from the season 2 finale by having Amanda Plummer’s Captain Vadic become the next generation Khan?

On February 17, 2023, “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 will launch on Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+ in streaming. It is the final season of “Star Trek: Picard.” With Amanda Plummer as Vadic, a new villain has already been announced, who was also seen in the “Star Trek: Picard” trailer. But how does Vadic fit in with the Project Khan cliffhanger at the end of season 2?

We remember: In the end, the Europa mission is able to go ahead as planned after Dr. Adam Soong (Brent Spiner) desperately tried to stop it. He is enraged and rummages through his files. He pulls out “Project Khan.” This suggests that Soong was one of the scientists who experimented on Khan in the 1990s and turned him into a superhuman.

However, since Khan has long since fled Earth by the time of “Star Trek: Picard” Season 2, only to be awakened from his cyrogenic stasis by Captain Kirk some 200 years later, the question naturally arises: why is Soong digging up a long-gone project?

Some fans are afraid that the cliffhanger won’t be resolved at all, but there could be a common thread between Khan and Vadic. For example, one fan theory suggests that Vadic is also an augment, a genetically enhanced human sent by Soong.

In addition to the Khan cliffhanger, the season two finale also mentioned an open transwarp tunnel that no one knows where it came from or how it was created. Agnes (Allison Pill) and the Borg want to patrol it. But it is more than clear that the new threat will come through the transwarp tunnel.

Thus, it is quite possible that Vadic was sent from the 21st century to the 25th century by Adam Soong to take revenge on Picard (Patrick Stewart). We know from the trailer that she is out for revenge. What she wants revenge for is unclear. Also, based on the scenes seen, we can neither confirm nor rule out that Vadic is a genetically enhanced human.

Since Khan also plays a role in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” through his descendant La’An Noonien Singh (Christina Chong), not to mention that Una (Rebecca Romijn) is an augment like Khan, the “Picard” cliffhanger could also be meant for other series or spin-offs from the “Star Trek” universe. However, we don’t assume that.

“Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 will tie up all the loose ends and thus surely resolve the Khan cliffhanger as well. Whether it will happen as just described remains to be seen. Until the start in February 2023, you can pass the time with other new “Star Trek” releases.

“Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 will launch in the U.S. on February 16, 2023 on Paramount+. One day later, on February 17, 2023, the first episode of season 3 will be available to you on Amazon Prime Video. The 10 episodes will be released weekly, so the finale will be available here on April 21.

Star Trek Picard Season 3: Trailer

A proper trailer for “Star Trek: Picard” season 3 has not been released yet, but a small teaser has been released, announcing that almost the entire crew from “Star Trek – The Next Century” will return in “Star Trek: Picard” season 3.

Cast of Star Trek Picard Season 3

In “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3, Patrick Stewart returns as Jean-Luc Picard, of course. To the delight of many fans, almost the entire crew from “Starship Enterprise – The Next Century” returns. This includes the following actors and actresses:

  • Jonathan Frakes as William Riker
  • Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi
  • Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher
  • LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge
  • Michael Dorn as Worf
  • Brent Spiner as Data / Dr. Altan Inigo Soong / Adam Soong

Also we will probably see Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine and Michelle Hurd as Raffi again. Whether Evan Evagora as Elnor and Isa Briones as Kore / Soji will return is still unclear.

In any case, Alison Pill and Santiago Cabrera will not be back as Jurati and Rios in “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3. John de Lancie as Q will also not return in the new season.

Production: Is it over after Star Trek Picard Season 3?

For Patrick Stewart, the “Star Trek” part of his life now seems to be finally over. The shooting of “Star Trek: Picard” season 3 is finished and according to his own statements, the 3rd season is already the end of the series.

It is quite possible that the series was intended from the beginning as a short Picard return, but fans would certainly be happy about another reunion with Patrick Stewart. Maybe there is still a place for him in the promising “Star Trek” future!
