“The Witcher” continues in a 4th season, but with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. But why continue with a new actor? Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explains. All the information about The Witcher Season 4 in here.
- The Netflix series “The Witcher” has been renewed for a 4th season, although lead actor Henry Cavill already left the series after the 3rd season.
- In Cavill’s place, Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Geralt of Riva in the future.
- In an interview, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explains why the character was recast instead of canceling the series.
The end of Season 3 of “The Witcher” ushers in a big change for the successful Netflix series. After 24 episodes as Geralt of Riva, lead actor Henry Cavill is leaving the fantasy saga. But the story of the Witcher continues and Liam Hemsworth will slip into Geralt’s robe in the future.
The decision to let the series continue without Cavill was met with incomprehension by many fans of the series. Now showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explains in an interview with the U.S. magazine “Total Film” why, despite criticism, they stuck to the plan to continue the series with a new leading actor instead of ending it.
Although the decision to recast Henry Cavill’s role has been met with criticism for understandable reasons, Hissrich’s explanation for this action makes perfect sense. The main goal of the Netflix series “The Witcher” is to adapt the book series of the same name. After the 3rd season, this is far from done.
So far, “The Witcher” has only adapted the books “The Last Wish” and “The Sword of Providence.” The 3rd season will be based on the novel “The Time of Contempt.” But there are numerous other works by author Andrzej Sapkowski that have not yet been mentioned, including “Baptism by Fire,” “The Swallow Tower,” “The Lady of the Lake” and “Time of the Storm.”
Also, replacing Geralt with another wizard would not have made sense for the story of the series. The Witcher is firmly interwoven with the plot of The Witcher season 4 and cannot simply be replaced. So it’s quite understandable that the team behind the Netflix production decided to continue it.
The end of Henry Cavill as the sorcerer Geralt of Riva caused quite a stir. The British actor reportedly left the series after Cavill complained that the adaptation of the books was too inaccurate. But according to Hissrich, this inaccuracy will be put to an end as early as season 3.
How it will continue after the change of the main actor for The Witcher season 4 is currently uncertain. The Witcher season 4 has already been requested by Netflix, everything else is up to the fans. However, if the series does indeed focus more on the books again, then the future of the series doesn’t look so bleak.
