Currently, there is no official start date for the 3rd season of The Witcher. However, Netflix has already confirmed the continuation of the series several months before the start of the 2nd season.

The scripts for the new episodes are also already written, as Ciri actress Freya Allan reveals in an interview with “RadioTimes“. The shooting itself started at the beginning of April 2022.

New episodes could therefore continue as early as winter 2022, but a start in the first half of 2023 would also be possible.

By the way: We recommend the Behind-the-Scenes video with production designer Andrew Laws to all those who want to bridge the waiting time until then and lose themselves once again in the sets of season 2.

How many episodes does The Witcher season 3 have?

The Witcher Season 3 Plot: What happens?

Spoiler warning: The following paragraph anticipates large parts of the plot of season 3. If you’d rather be surprised, you should return to “Who’s in Season 3 of The Witcher?”.

Fans of the books already have a good idea of what will happen next with The Witcher. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich confirmed that the plot of the 3rd season will be closely based on the original “The Time of Contempt.” This is the third book in the Witcher saga.

Ciri will continue her education in it. However, not in Kaer Morhen, but as a sorceress in Aretusa. Of course, she meets Geralt there as well.

Ciri also learns that she is the descendant of the rebel Falka, who serves as a warning example to the wizards of the continent.

Finally, Ciri meets the Emperor of Nilfgaard, Emhyr var Emreis, after being captured by the fire mage Rience. A band of teenage brigands later frees her from the emperor’s prison.

In addition, the 3rd season of “The Witcher” will be much more action-heavy. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich revealed this in an interview with “The Wrap,” in which she also discussed the future of the elves in The Witcher season 3 and the death of the Witcher’s horse Roach in Season 2.
