With “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” US broadcaster AMC is releasing another “The Walking Dead” spin-off. In it, Maggie and Negan must go on a joint mission. This is what is known about the series so far.
- Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are getting their own “The Walking Dead” spin-off in their popular roles as Maggie and Negan.

- For a decade, the zombie series “The Walking Dead” has thrilled viewers around the globe. Now, US broadcaster AMC has aired the finale of the popular series. In the finale of the 11th season, Maggie and Negan at least partially make peace, Maggie takes over the management of Hilltop and assigns Daryl to investigate the causes of the zombie apocalypse.
In “The Walking Dead: Dead City” (formerly “Isle of the Dead”), Maggie and Negan fight their way through a post-apocalyptic New York City. In addition to Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, other cast members have already been confirmed by the network.
The Walking Dead – Dead City: Start Date
There is no exact start date yet. Initially, the series was supposed to start in April 2023, but now the start of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” has been postponed to June 2023. Most likely, this is due to the 8th season of “Fear the Walking Dead”, which starts in May. Since the finale of the first part of season 8 will air on June 18, we assume that “Dead City” will then start a week later on JJune 25, 2023.

The Walking Dead – Dead City: Storyline
According to the official series description, Maggie and Negan find themselves in an entirely new place: “Isle of the Dead [now “The Walking Dead: Dead City”] features beloved characters Maggie and Negan traveling through post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which was long ago separated from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with dead people and life that have made New York its own world of anarchy, danger, beauty and terror.”
In the new urban setting, however, more dangers definitely await arch-enemies Maggie and Negan. The bitter rivals set off together to the former metropolis to find a group of people who have managed to survive on the basis of cable cars and a life far from the ground and its deadly dangers.
Fighting together against the Commonwealth in season 11 of TWD, Maggie and Negan make peace. Negan and Annie are allowed to stay in the Commonwealth. At the end of the episode, Judith receives a package from Negan. Inside is the compass she gave him in season 9. On a card, Negan writes that Judith should use it to find happiness. How Maggie and Negan collide to go to New York together is not yet clear. Since between the end of TWD and the story of “Dead City” again take place a time jump over several years, must also be fathomed, what happens in the meantime with Maggie and Negan.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan already reveals in an interview with the US magazine Entertainment Weekly that Negan and Annie will not stay in the Commonwealth despite their permission. With their small family, they are starting a new life elsewhere. Also tells Morgan that Negan so away from Maggie and Co. falls back into his old patterns.
The Walking Dead – Dead City: Cast
From the beginning it was clear that both Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will again slip into the roles of Maggie and Negan. Whether other old acquaintances from the TWD universe will make guest appearances remains to be seen. A small appearance of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes is not excluded.
Some cast members are already officially confirmed. Actors Gaius Charles (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Jonathan Higginbotham (“The Blacklist”) will be seen as the characters Perlie Armstrong and Tommaso. In addition, Željko Ivanek (“Madam Secretary”) will appear as the mysterious character The Croat and actress Mahina Napoleon (“NCIS: Hawai’i”) will take on the role of the character Ginny.
Brand new to the cast is Aixa Kendrick, who previously starred in “Law & Order: SVU.” She is said to play a character reminiscent of Jadis from “The Walking Dead.”
The Walking Dead – Dead City: Production
Showrunner will be Eli Journé, who was already co-executive producer and screenwriter on The Walking Dead. TWD content chief Scott M. Gimple is also involved in Dead City. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are additionally executive producers as well. Season 1 will feature six episodes and is currently filming in New Jersey and New York.
