The Calling, the Peacock original series created by David E. Kelley. The show is based on D.A. Mishani’s novels about Detective Avraham Avraham, a religious Jew who solves crimes in New York City with his partner Janine Harris.

The first season of The Calling consisted of eight episodes that followed Avi and Janine as they investigated the disappearance of a teenage boy named Vincent Conte, who was involved in a mysterious cult led by John Wentworth. Along the way, they faced personal and professional challenges, as well as moral dilemmas that tested their faith and humanity.

But what about The Calling Season 2? Will there be more episodes of The Calling? And if so, when will they be released and what will they be about? Here’s everything we know so far about The Calling season 2.

So far, The Calling has only one season, which premiered on Peacock on November 10, 2022. The season had eight episodes, each about 46 minutes long. The season finale aired on the same day as the premiere, as Peacock released all episodes at once for binge-watching.

What is the Ending of The Calling?

The first season of The Calling ended with a shocking twist that revealed the true identity of John Wentworth, the charismatic leader of the cult that Vincent joined. It turned out that John was actually Leonard Conte, Vincent’s uncle and Nora’s brother, who had faked his death years ago and assumed a new identity.

Leonard had been manipulating Vincent and his family for his own twisted agenda, which involved revenge against his father, Michael Rosen, a wealthy businessman who had disowned him for being gay. Leonard had planted a bomb in Michael’s office building, intending to kill him and everyone else inside.

However, Avi and Janine managed to stop Leonard’s plan and arrest him before he could detonate the bomb. They also rescued Vincent, who had been kidnapped by Leonard and held captive in his basement. Vincent was reunited with his parents, Nora and Peter, and his sister Olivia.

Is The Calling coming back in 2023?

As of now, there is no official confirmation from Peacock or David E. Kelley about whether The Calling will be renewed for a second season or not. However, there are some reasons to be optimistic about the show’s future.

First of all, The Calling is based on a series of novels by D.A. Mishani, which means that there is more source material to adapt for future seasons. In fact, Mishani has written four books so far about Detective Avraham Avraham: The Missing File (2011), A Possibility of Violence (2013), The Man Who Wanted to Know Everything (2015), and Three (2018).

Secondly, The Calling has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who praised its intriguing plot, complex characters, and compelling performances. The show currently has a 7.1/10 rating on IMDb and an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Thirdly, The Calling has a talented cast and crew behind it, led by David E. Kelley, who is known for creating successful shows like Big Little Lies, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, and The Undoing. The show also stars Jeff Wilbusch as Avi, Juliana Canfield as Janine, Karen Robinson as Captain Davies, Michael Mosley as Detective Malzone, Tony Curran as Leonard/John, Noel Fisher as Zack Miller, and many more.

Will there be a The Calling Season 2?

Given the above factors, we think that there is a good chance that Peacock will renew. However, this is just our speculation and nothing is confirmed yet.

If Peacock does decide to renew The Calling for season 2, we expect that it will follow the same release pattern as season 1 and drop all episodes at once on its streaming platform.

Why was The Calling Season 2 canceled?

Currently, there is no official information about the renewal or cancellation of The Calling for season 2. Peacock has not announced its decision yet, and it may take some time to evaluate the ratings and reviews of the show. The series has received mixed reactions from critics and audiences, with some praising its unique protagonist and others finding it slow and dull.

The show has a lot of potential to continue, as there are two more books in the Avraham series that could be adapted for The Calling Season 2. The third book, The Man Who Wanted to Know Everything, involves a murder investigation that leads Avi to Paris, where he meets a French detective who shares his passion for crime-solving. The fourth book, Three, follows Avi as he tries to find a connection between three women who were killed by the same man.

The Calling Season 2 Release Date: Speculation!

The series finale left the viewers hanging, suggesting that David E. Kelley has plans to bring more of Avraham’s novels to the screen. Matthew Tinker, one of the executive producers, hinted at the possibility of a second season in a Digital Trends interview, saying that he was intrigued by the complexity of Jeff and Avi. We hope that Peacock will greenlight another season of this refreshing take on the police procedural genre.

After all, David E. Kelley has a track record of creating successful shows like Big Little Lies, The Undoing, and Mr. Mercedes, so maybe he can find a new home for The Calling. If that happens, we might expect a second season of The Calling to premiere sometime in late 2023 or early 2024, depending on the production schedule and the availability of the cast and crew.

The Calling Season 2 Plot: What’s next?

The first season of The Calling followed Avraham and his partner Janine Harris (Juliana Canfield) as they investigated the disappearance of a teenage boy named Vincent Conte (Charlie Besso), who was involved in a cult-like group led by John Wentworth (Tony Curran). Along the way, they uncovered a web of secrets, lies, and violence that involved Vincent’s family, friends, and enemies. The season ended with a shocking twist that revealed that Vincent was actually alive and had faked his own death with the help of Wentworth, who was his biological father. Vincent then killed Wentworth and escaped with his sister Olivia (Mattea Conforti), leaving Avraham and Janine stunned and confused.

If there was a The Calling Season 2, it would likely explore the aftermath of this revelation and how it affects Avraham and Janine’s personal and professional lives. It would also probably introduce a new case for them to solve, possibly involving another aspect of Avraham’s faith or culture. Maybe we would also learn more about Avraham’s backstory and why he became a detective in the first place.

The Calling Season 2 Cast: Who’s in it?

If The Calling was renewed for a second season, we would expect most of the main cast to return, including:

  • Jeff Wilbusch as Detective Avraham Avraham
  • Juliana Canfield as Detective Janine Harris
  • Karen Robinson as Captain Kathleen Davies
  • Michael Mosley as Detective Earl Malzone

However, some of the characters from season one might not come back, either because they died or because their storylines were resolved. These include:

  • Tony Curran as John Wentworth
  • Charlie Besso as Vincent Conte
  • Mattea Conforti as Olivia Conte
  • Steven Pasquale as Leonard Conte
  • Stephanie Szostak as Nora Conte
  • Noel Fisher as Zack Miller
  • Annabelle Dexter-Jones as Dania Miller

Of course, there might also be some new characters introduced in season two, either as allies or enemies of Avraham and Janine. Maybe we would see some familiar faces from David E. Kelley’s other shows or some guest stars from other crime dramas.

Where can to Watch The Calling?

The first season of The Calling is available to stream on Peacock in the US. Peacock is a subscription-based streaming service that offers three tiers: free, premium ($4.99 per month), and premium plus ($9.99 per month). The free tier allows you to watch some episodes of The Calling with ads, but you need to upgrade to premium or premium plus to watch the entire season without ads.

If you live outside the US, you might have to wait a bit longer to watch The Calling. Peacock is not available in many countries yet.

The Calling Season 2 Trailer: Is there a teaser?

As of now, there is no official confirmation that The Calling has been renewed for a second season by Peacock. The first season premiered on November 10, 2022, and consisted of eight episodes. It received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, with some praising the performances and the mystery, while others criticizing the plot and the religious aspects. According to Variety, The Calling was one of the most-watched shows on Peacock in November 2022, but it’s unclear how many viewers it actually attracted.

If The Calling does get renewed for a second season, we might expect a trailer or a teaser sometime in late 2023 or early 2024, depending on the production schedule and the release date. The trailer would likely reveal some clues about the new case that Avraham and his partner Janine Harris would have to solve, as well as the consequences of the events of season one.
