Horror fans have reason to rejoice because The Boogeyman is now back in cinemas. And what happens next? We assess the chances of a sequel.
The works of horror master Stephen King can be enjoyed in book form and numerous moving image formats. Recently, another film adaptation joined them, namely the remake “The Boogeyman”, which is based on the short story of the same name, which can be found in the anthology “Night Shift”.
Here, the monsters under the bed are awakened: the Harper family, consisting of father and psychotherapist Will (Chris Messina) and the two daughters Sadie (Sophie Thatcher) and Sawyer (Vivian Lyra Blair), is in deep mourning for their recently deceased wife and mother. When one of Will’s patients visits him privately, an eerie entity also enters the Harpers’ home, feeding off their grief.
The Boogeyman: Here’s what the odds are for Part 2
The horror story was already filmed in 2005 and continued two years later. Perhaps already a good omen for the sequel to the remake? If “The Boogeyman” can continue to inspire a large audience in 2023 and achieve convincing box office results, there should be nothing in the way of a second film, at least financially. However, the makers will no longer have a book to fall back on and must work out how to continue. Of course, this is not a criterion for exclusion, but it is at least a small hurdle to consider.
Without wanting to give too much away, it can already be stated that a second part would also be feasible regarding content. Accordingly, the sequel will probably stand or fall with the audience reaction or the result at the international box office. Test screenings have been very convincing so far, and Stephen King is enthusiastic about the new edition (more on this in the linked article). In a few weeks or months, Disney could already announce how the future of the Boogeyman stands. We will keep you up to date here.
