Re: Zero Season 3 Plot: What’s next?
Re:Zero Season 3 will start things off with the “Stars that Engrave History” arc of the light novel. This is the fifth official arc of the light novel and it begins in volume 16. It also spans about a dozen chapters, so expect the third season to be at least 12-13 episodes long.
In this arc, Subaru and his allies are invited to the Watergate City of Priestella by Anastasia Hoshin, one of the candidates for the Royal Selection. However, their peaceful visit is soon interrupted by the appearance of the Sin Archbishops of the Witch Cult, who have taken over the city and are plotting to destroy it. Subaru and his friends must not only save Priestella, but also prevent the Sin Archbishop of Greed, Regulus Corneas, from forcing Emilia to marry him.
This arc will feature new enemies, new allies, new revelations, and new challenges for Subaru and his companions. It will also explore more of the lore and history of the Re:Zero world, as well as the mysterious connection between Subaru and Satella, the Witch of Envy.
Re: Zero Season 3 Characters and Cast: Who’s in it?
Re:Zero Season 3 will bring back most of the familiar faces from the previous seasons, as well as introduce some new characters. Here are some of the confirmed cast members for Re:Zero Season 3:
- Subaru Natsuki: The main protagonist of Re:Zero, a young man who was transported to another world and gained the ability to “Return by Death”, which allows him to rewind time every time he dies. He is determined to protect Emilia and his friends from any harm. Voiced by Yuusuke Kobayashi.
- Emilia: The main heroine of Re:Zero, a half-elf girl who is one of the candidates for the Royal Selection. She is kind-hearted and gentle, but also suffers from low self-esteem and discrimination due to her resemblance to Satella. She is accompanied by Puck, a spirit who acts as her father figure. Voiced by Rie Takahashi.
- Beatrice: A petite girl who is actually a powerful spirit who guards a forbidden library in Roswaal’s mansion. She forms a contract with Subaru after he saves her from Elsa’s attack. She is tsundere and often calls Subaru “I suppose”. Voiced by Satomi Arai.
- Otto Suwen: A merchant who is also a friend and ally of Subaru. He has the Divine Protection of Soul Language, which allows him to communicate with animals and plants. He is loyal and helpful, but also has a sarcastic side. Voiced by Kouhei Amasaki.
- Garfiel Tinsel: A half-human half-beast boy who guards Sanctuary, a barrier that prevents anyone with mixed blood from leaving. He initially opposes Subaru and Emilia’s plan to free Sanctuary, but later joins them after learning the truth about his past. He is hot-headed and strong-willed, but also cares deeply for his sister Frederica and his crush Ram. Voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto.
- Regulus Corneas: The main antagonist of Re:Zero Season 3, he is the Sin Archbishop of Greed of the Witch Cult. He has the Authority of Greed, which allows him to manipulate time and space around him according to his own desires. He is arrogant and selfish, believing that he is always right and everyone else is wrong. He also has a habit of collecting wives against their will. Voiced by Takuya Eguchi.
Will there be Re: Zero Season 3?
Yes! Re:Zero Season 3 has been officially announced by Kadokawa at Anime Japan 2023 on March 25th, 2023. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer that showed some glimpses of what’s to come in Re:Zero Season 3.
Adding to the excitement, on July 23rd, 2023, a new key visual was unveiled during the MF Bunko festival stream.
The teaser trailer also featured a message from Tappei Nagatsuki, the author of Re:Zero light novels, who expressed his excitement and gratitude for the third season of Re:Zero anime. He also apologized for keeping fans waiting for so long and promised that they will be able to see Subaru and everyone else moving about, talking, singing, dancing and sometimes dying once again in the anime.
Re: Zero Season 3 Release Date: Speculation!
The exact release date for Re:Zero Season 3 has not been revealed yet, but we can make some educated guesses based on the previous seasons. Re:Zero Season 1 aired from April to September 2016, while Re:Zero Season 2 aired from July to September 2020 and from January to March 2021.
