Is “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 2 coming to Disney+? We’ll tell you what the future of the “Star Wars” series with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen is like!
The Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” has come to a – possibly temporary – end. But now fans are thirsty for more. Will we get “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 2? Actually, no sequel was planned, but in the meantime the tide seems to have turned.
Is “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Coming in Season 2?
Originally, the first season is said to have been conceived as a completed story. Director Deborah Chow has repeatedly emphasized this. The series itself is said to have been designed for only one season at a time. But she points out that there are still 9 years between the end of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 1 and “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope”.
A long period in the “Star Wars” chronology, in which we could still expect some stories about Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Chow himself would probably be open to returning, and Ewan McGregor himself has even fueled the rumor mill.
The actor would also be willing to return. Disney will certainly not have a second season off the table and work on concepts until you have a good story for Season 2.
When does “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 2 start on Disney+?
Before a start date for a possible second season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” can be determined, the series must be confirmed. In the near future, however, there will be no “Obi-Wan Kenobi” season 2, too many “Star Wars” new releases have been announced and are in production.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2: Plot
There is little to say about the plot. Obi-Wan is back on Tatooine. From some comics that are no longer part of the canon, we know that he saves the life of a young Luke and uncle Owen (Joel Edgerton) from time to time – including from the Wookie gladiator Black Krrsanten (Carey Jones) from “The Book of Boba Fett”.
The finale of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” definitely hinted at some stories that can be told in Season 2. So Obi-Wan has finally been able to get in touch with the power spirit of his master, Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson), who announces that there is still “a long way to go” ahead of Obi-Wan.
Also, in the last scene with Darth Vader, the famous Imperial March is finally played, which shows that Vader has now completely moved on to the Dark Side. In a short conversation with Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), he once again emphasizes his loyalty. The dynamic between the two Sith Lords also offers potential for further stories.
Another open ending is the storyline with Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits). At their farewell, Kenobi promises to be there if he is needed. While this hint will come true later in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” when Leia turns to Obi-Wan, it also suggests that Bail and Obi-Wan will work together for the rebellion.
Whether “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is the right place to continue Reva’s (Moses Ingram) story is unclear. Perhaps she will return in one of the other upcoming Disney+ series. But their story is certainly not over yet!
Which story the series creators will think about for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” season 2 remains to be seen. Many doors are open to the screenwriters, they just have to go through.
When will we see Ewan McGregor again?
At the end of August 2022, the new “Star Wars” series “Andor” will start, which takes place about five years after “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. It is about the beginnings of the rebellion, in which Senator Bail Organa is significantly involved.
It is not confirmed that Smits will be seen in “Andor”. However, should he perform, which is very likely due to his role in the rebellion, he could fall back on Obi-Wan’s promise to help should he be needed. An appearance by Bail Organa would therefore very likely also bring an appearance by Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi!
Certainly, Lucasfilm BOSS Kathleen Kennedy will soon comment on the future of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and Ewan McGregor.
