The Spanish series “House of Money” became a worldwide hit when Netflix took over the international streaming rights. Now everyone knows the gangsters in red overalls and the Salvador Dalí mask.
In “Money Heist,” “The Professor” organizes a heist. Eight specialists are supposed to help him. The robbery is not of a bank, as suspected, but of Spain’s banknote printing works. The aim is to print own banknotes in the amount of 2.4 billion euros.
The plan must be well thought out, because the group needs 11 days for the entire robbery. To avoid detection, the criminals decide to use aliases. So they name themselves after the major cities of Tokyo, Berlin, Rio, Helsinki, Oslo, Moscow, Denver and Nairobi.
But in season 3, Tokyo and Rio are discovered and Rio ends up in captivity. A new plan is needed to free the gang member from the clutches of the police. Of course, the professor combines the rescue operation with another heist.
This time the gold is to be stolen from the Spanish National Bank. But not everything goes according to plan. In the season 4 finale, the professor is caught and the gang must complete the heist without their mastermind.
“Money Heist” became an international hit on Netflix. However, the authors of the series could not expect this in advance, and therefore killed Berlin, one of the most interesting characters of the series, already at the end of season 2.
In season 3, Berlin returned in flashbacks, but in the best case scenario, the charismatic thief would have remained a main character until the end of the series. Now, however, there is a reunion with Berlin, because the spin-off “Money Heist: Berlin” starts in December 2023 on Netflix. You can see the first trailer here:
Of course, Berlin’s solo adventure is a prequel, showing his life before his first encounter with the Professor. In addition to the trailer, there were also first images from the series, which allow a look at the rest of the cast.
Whether “Money Heist: Berlin” is a miniseries or could receive additional seasons will likely be decided by the success or failure of the series. Further spin-offs would also be possible, and there is also “Money Heist: Korea”, although it is more of a remake.
