After a long, three-year wait after season two dropped in 2019, CIA agent Jack Ryan is finally back for the third season of Jack Ryan, and the good news is that Jack Ryan Season 4 is already in production.
The third season of Jack Ryan was released in January 2023, after a long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. It followed Jack and Greer as they tried to stop a nuclear threat in Russia, while also dealing with personal and professional challenges. The season ended with a cliffhanger that set up the stage for the next season, which promises to be another exciting ride.
But what can we expect from Jack Ryan Season 4? When will it be released? Who will be in the cast? And what will be the plot? Here’s everything we know so far about Jack Ryan Season 4.
Jack Ryan Season 4 Release Date: Potential!
Jack Ryan was renewed for Season 4 by Amazon Prime Video in October 2021, and in May 2022, Amazon confirmed that the fourth season will be the last. There’s no release date for Jack Ryan Season 4 yet, but it shouldn’t take another three years between seasons, because Season 4 has already been filmed.
In an interview with The Wrap, John Krasinski confirmed that Seasons 3 and 4 were shot back-to-back, so the wait for Season 4 should be a lot less than the three and a half years it took for Season 3 to reach our screens. “We already finished [Season 4], we actually shot three and four back to back,” Krasinski said E! News. “So that was the whole idea, knowing that the fans would go so long in between two and three, we decided to do three and four back to back so that they wouldn’t have to wait that long again.”
It would make sense for Amazon to hold Season 4 until late 2023 or early 2024 to get it on an annual release schedule and to allow the potential spin-off time to get ready for release the following year.
Jack Ryan Season 4 Cast: Who will be returning?
Naturally, there’s no Jack Ryan without Jack Ryan, aka John Krasinski. He may still be most famous as Jim from The Office, but Krasinski is now just as much Jack as he is Jim. As the titular character, a fourth season hinges on him coming back to the role.
Co-creator Graham Roland described the casting choice to Entertainment Weekly, saying, “We wanted to start our story with this guy who was just an office worker who was being pulled into something that he had never done before, and that was a journey that John was making in his career, going from a guy working on a sitcom based in an office to more of an action hero. It felt like he was the perfect guy.”
Outside of Krasinski, Wendell Pierce (The Wire) would need to come back as James Greer, the second protagonist. Only the pair of them have been in every episode so far, so while some other characters might come back, these two are essential.
Other cast members who might return include Noomi Rapace as Harriet “Harry” Baumann, Michael Kelly as Mike November, Jovan Adepo as Marcus Bishop, Jordi Mollà as Nicolás Reyes, Cristina Umaña as Gloria Bonalde, Francisco Denis as Miguel Ubarri, Tom Wlaschiha as Max Schenkel, Abbie Cornish as Cathy Mueller, Ali Suliman as Suleiman, Dina Shihabi as Hanin Ali, and Peter Fonda as Joe Muller.
There are also some new faces joining the cast for Season 4. According to Deadline, Cathy Mueller as Abbie Cornish, Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Blindspot) will play Elizabeth Wright, the Deputy Director of Operations at CIA; Dylan Baker (The Good Wife) will play Robert Singer, the Director of National Intelligence; Nimrat Kaur (Homeland) will play Reema Patel, a high-ranking Indian intelligence officer; and Numan Acar (Homeland) will play Haluk Bilginer,
a Turkish arms dealer.
Jack Ryan Season 4 Plot: What will happen?
Season four of Jack Ryan promises to be a thrilling adventure that will take Jack to new heights and challenges. Wilmott, the showrunner, has hinted that Jack will have a different role in the CIA, allowing him to explore another aspect of his character.
He said: “Season four is another exciting ride – very international, different characters, new villains, and it allows us to play with Jack, Greer, Mike, and everybody in it, in new exciting ways.”
The plot of season four is still a mystery, but it could be inspired by one of Tom Clancy’s novels, as season three was loosely based on The Hunt For Red October. There are many possibilities for the source material, as Clancy wrote 21 books featuring Jack Ryan and his associates.
One clue that could indicate the direction of season four is the return of Cathy Mueller, Jack’s love interest from season one. In the books, she becomes Jack’s wife and a key ally in his missions. Could we see them tie the knot in season four? Or will their relationship face new obstacles and dangers?
Another character that will join Jack in season four is Ding Chavez (Michael Peña), a fellow CIA agent who will later have his own spin-off series. How will they work together and what kind of threats will they face?
We don’t know yet if other fan-favorite characters, like Greer and Mike, will be back for season four, or where the action will take place. But we can expect a lot of twists and turns, as well as some explosive scenes.
Jack Ryan Season 4 Trailer: Is there any footage yet?
Since season three was released on Amazon Prime only a few months ago, we don’t have a trailer for season four yet.
