Fantasy fans are eagerly awaiting season 2 of the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. According to an HBO boss, however, they still have to be patient.
Game of Thrones fans are starved. Three years after the end of the parent series and dozens of spin-off ideas later, the prequel series House of the Dragon finally arrived in the summer of 2022. Since then, the community has been looking forward to season 2, and will have to hold out for a while longer.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Makes Fantasy Fans Wait
HBO head Casey Bloys told Variety that a season 2 release in 2024 is “a good estimate.” He said the season could not be submitted for the next Emmys. The Emmys are still accepting nominees for the awards show until the end of May 2024, so new episodes of House of the Dragon probably won’t be released until the summer of 2024.
This is a bitter disappointment for fantasy fans who still had the Game of Thrones release schedule in mind. After all, the fantasy mother series released new episodes every year until season 8.
“A good script is a priority for me,” Bloys explained. “I don’t want to do it and then have two or three [Game of Thrones series] a year. I’m doing it for the scripts we’re looking forward to.” The wait will pain house of the Dragon fans. But they, too, will appreciate the ambition for quality.
