- In “Dune 2” Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides gets to know the Fremen and the desert planet Arrakis better.
- The first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel promises more action and spectacular images.
- “Dune 2” was shot entirely with IMAX cameras; in “Dune” only 40 percent of the scenes were suitable for the IMAX format.
While David Lynch filmed the complete first novel of Frank Herbert’s science fiction series in his 1984 adaptation of “The Desert Planet,” Denis Villeneuve took more time and spread the story from the first book over two films. This allows for greater faithfulness to the original, but also ensured that “Dune” from 2021 was more of a long introduction.
On November 2, 2023, “Dune 2,” the second half of the story. At CinemaCon in April 2023, director Villeneuve already presented the first trailer for the film and now, almost two weeks later, the trailer is finally available online.
At CinemaCon, Villeneuve promised:
The first part is more of a thoughtful film. The second part is an action-packed, epic war film. It’s much more intense. We shot in completely new locations. I didn’t want to have the feeling of repetition. It’s all new sets. Everything is new.
Denis Villeneuve
The promised action is already evident in the trailer. “Dune” distributed all the characters on Arrakis, introduced the Fremen, and introduced us to the evil Harkonnens, who are now reinforced by Feyd-Rautha in the second part. In the trailer, we already see Paul preparing for a Krismesser fight with Feyd-Rautha.
Before the Fremen join Paul to go to war against the Harkonnens in revenge for the death of Duke Leto and for the freedom of Arrakis, Paul must win their trust and prove that he is the Chosen One, as predicted by the Bene Gesserit. One of the ways to do this is to ride the massive sandworm, which was foreshadowed in the last scene from “Dune.” Now it is Paul’s task to mount and control the creature.
Another trailer for “Dune 2” surely awaits us until the movie’s release in November, until then you can refresh your memory once again with the first film, which is currently available in the Amazon Prime Video program.
