“Doctor Strange 2” ends with some open questions. We explain the ending and the scenes after the credits and their significance for the Marvel future!
Finally, the latest adventure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has launched on Disney+: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Logically, there are two scenes after the credits at the end, which hint at future Marvel projects. “Doctor Strange 2” opens up numerous possibilities for the future!
Due to the nature of the article, we assume you already knew this, but we’d rather mention it again: spoilers will hail! So if you haven’t seen the movie yet, then you have another chance to get out.
Doctor Strange 2: What happened in the movie?
The plot of “Doctor Strange 2” is relatively simple. Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) has been corrupted by the magical book Darkhold and hunts down America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who has the ability to travel through different universes of the multiverse. In order to find her children (see “WandaVision”) from other universes, Wanda wants to incorporate America’s powers.
Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wong (Benedict Wong) cannot allow this and protect America. Strange and America have to flee to other universes. Even the powerful Illuminati, consisting of Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Black Bolt (Anson Mount) and Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), cannot protect America.
In the blink of an eye, Wanda has defeated the seemingly powerful superheroes and can continue her hunt for America. She gets hold of America and banishes Strange to an alien universe. There Strange finds another version of the darkhold of another universe.
He uses the Force to bring a corpse of Doctor Strange to life and control it from a distance. The zombie strange finds Wanda and can help America use her strength. She does this promptly and lets the bloodthirsty Scarlet Witch meet her children from another universe.
When Wanda’s children see the witch Wanda has become, they are afraid. Wanda realizes what a monster she has become. She wanted her children back and instead she repelled and frightened her children. She realizes her mistakes and eventually sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold and every Darkhold in every universe.
America ultimately remains in our universe and is taught in Kamar-Taj. Wong asks Strange if he’s okay, after all, he used the Darkhold. Strange thinks that everything is fine, but suddenly a third eye opens on his forehead. End!
Doctor Strange 2: Who are the Illuminati?
In the Marvel comics, the Illuminati are a think tank, an amalgamation of the most intelligent Avengers. In “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” it is a version of the Avengers from another universe. The Illuminati are aware of the danger of the multiverse and have researched it well.
Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is not the same as the one we know from the “X-Men” movies. Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter also seems to be a different variant than the one from “What If…?”. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” star Anson Mount had already played another variant of Black Bolt in the unpopular Marvel series “Inhumans”.
Since all the Illuminati were killed by Wanda, they will not return in this form. But there are certainly other Illuminati in the Multiverse that could one day appear.
Doctor Strange 2: Will John Krasinski return as Mr. Fantastic?
John Krasinski has long been a favorite cast of Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic Four, in fan circles. Since a “Fantastic Four” film has already been announced, it is possible that Krasinski will take up the role again. However, since the actor and director is busy, this remains to be seen.
Doctor Strange 2: Is Wanda finally dead?
At the end of the film, Wanda gets an impressive ending. She sacrifices herself and buries the Darkhold and the Scarlet Witch. In doing so, it removes a dangerous factor from the multiverse. But is she really dead? Yes, the Wanda we know and love is dead.
Due to the vastness of the multiverse, however, one can expect Elizabeth Olsen to return sooner or later. Other variants of Wanda are still out there, colonizing other universes.
Doctor Strange 2: Young Avengers – This is how it continues with America Chavez!
America is trained as a sorceress in Kamar-Taj. Which Marvel project she will appear in next is unclear. Since the multiverse will play an important role in the future and she is the only known person who can travel through it, it will certainly become even more important.
In addition, rumors about a “Young Avenegrs” project have been circulating for a long time. What are the Young Avengers? We’ll explain everything you need to know about the young Marvel generation of Avengers!
Doctor Strange 2: What does the third eye mean?
What can be seen as a bad omen is actually a good sign. At the end of the film, Doctor Strange gets a third eye on his forehead. In the Marvel comics, this appears when Strange uses the eye of Agamotto.
The eye of Agamotto can only be used for white magic and does not respond to dark magic. However, why the evil Strange variant had the third eye is unclear. It’s quite possible that the MCU will break away from the comics.
Doctor Strange 2: First scene after the credits – who is Clea?
In the first scene after the credits, Doctor Strange meets a new character: Clea. Clea is played by Hollywood star Charlize Theron and is the Supreme Sorceress of the Dark Dimension in the Marvel comics. In the Marvel comics, a love story develops between Clea and Doctor Strange.
Clea and Dr. Strange even get married. She is also the niece of the powerful creature Dormammu, whom we meet as the villain in the first “Doctor Strange” movie.
Doctor Strange 2: What about the second scene after the credits?
In Marvel movies, the scenes after the credits are often to be understood as a door opener for future projects. Sometimes, however, the filmmakers also allow themselves one or the other joke. This is also the case in the second scene after the end credits of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.
We see the man who was not paid by America and Doctor Strange after America stole pizza balls. Strange had then cast a spell on him, so that he beat himself. After the credits, we now see how he stops beating himself.
The gag is that the actor of the small role is Bruce Campbell. The actor has worked with director Sam Raimi for many years and has also had guest appearances in the “Spider-Man” trilogy with Tobey Maguire.
How exactly Doctor Strange and Clea will continue, we will probably only find out in the future. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ends with the promise: “Doctor Strange will return.” So we remain curious.
