Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave would love to get right to work on “Extraction 3,” they’ve revealed. Now it’s up to Netflix fans.
Summertime is movie time – and streaming time! Every year, providers vie for the audience’s favor with expensive and ambitious in-house productions, whether movies, series or documentaries, just as the studios do with sinfully expensive event films. While Disney+ subscribers can look forward to the start of the Marvel series “Secret Invasion” and the invention of Cheetos snacks in “Flamin’ Hot,” and Amazon wants to thrill with “The Grand Tour: Eurocrash,” Netflix is unpacking a very thick caliber with “Extraction 2.
The sequel to the 2020 streaming hit “Extraction” was produced by the same team: While the “Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo again act as producers, Joe also wrote the script, Greg Baldi takes care of the background music and Sam Hargrave wields the directorial scepter, Marvel star Chris Hemsworth stands, fights and bleeds once again in front of the camera as a mercenary with a heart Tyler Rake.
For “Extraction 2”, director Hargrave and lead actor Hemsworth have once again spared no effort to offer fans action scenes that can compete with the big productions like “John Wick” and Asian action productions from South Korea. The 39-year-old Australian announced on Twitter that the action sequel will have a 21-minute action plan sequence (continuous scene without editing) that could put everything in the shade, because Hemsworth even set himself on fire for it:
“A single sequence that lasts 21 minutes. You heard me right. Prepare for the ride of your lives!!!”
Some others would capitulate directly after such grueling filming and all the training for the necessary physique and happily return to blockbusters with lots of computer effects. Not so Hemsworth (via Gamesradar):
“I love it. I love embodying this character. I love this world. I love having something outside of Marvel that has generated a certain fanbase; something more in the real world. I honestly feel like we created a better movie than we did with the first one. That’s rare in the world of the franchise. We would be remiss if we didn’t try with another film.”
Over all, this action series offers a multitude of possibilities for how and where mercenary Tyler Rake could be used, director Hargrave points out:
“I’m excited to see what Tyler Rake’s next adventure might look like. We’ll see how this movie goes here. We’ll see how people react to it. And should the world yearn for another Tyler Rake adventure, that would be something I’d love to see on the matte screen. I have an idea, but I’m not going to give it away here…”
Variety is definitely writ large: While “Extraction” is set in Bangladesh, “Extraction 2” takes us to colder climes. You can watch the fast-paced trailer here.
Extraction 2: Chris Hemsworth frees an entire family
Cobbler, stick to your last: As with his mission in Bangladesh, Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) must once again penetrate hostile terrain to carry out the mission of a shady person. Only this time it’s not a single person the mercenary has to rescue from a predicament, but the entire family of a Georgian crime king. The problem: the latter is being held in a high-security prison.
“Extraction 2” will be made available via Netflix from June 16, 2023. So as soon as possible.
