Last year, Stranger Things season 4 aired on Netflix. With overlength, the last two episodes concluded the epic battle against Vecna. But the mystery series hasn’t reached its end yet. Netflix has long confirmed a 5th season of Stranger Things. This will be the finale of the main story.
Meanwhile, it is known when the filming of season 5 will begin. We have compiled three more important pieces of information for you. The following is our spoiler-free preview of the series grand finale.
When will Stranger Things season 5 start on Netflix?
Stranger Things season 5 won’t start until spring/summer 2024 – the bitter but most realistic estimate. Will Beyers actor Noah Schnapp last told Collider that filming would start in May 2023. A release a year later is absolutely within the realm of possibility. The estimate of Mike actor Finn Wolfhard is less optimistic: He expects a start in 2025.
Three years lay between seasons 3 and 4. The circumstances of the Corona pandemic were also to blame for that, so there won’t be such an interruption again. But a start next year is almost impossible. So far, not even a date for the start of filming has been set.
This doesn’t have to be bad news at all. The 3-year break has done Stranger Things good. The showrunner brothers, Matt and Ross Duffer, used the time to develop the series further. They say the state of the story in season 5: “We’ve worked out quite a lot.” However, time brings an organizational problem. The only solution is.
Stranger Things season 5 will be set after a time jump
The Stranger Things cast around Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) is ageing faster than the characters, which is especially noticeable during puberty, which some of the cast: ins have already overcome. Since CGI rejuvenation, as seen in It 2 or The Irishman, is not an option, there is only one way out: a time jump that incorporates the optical change into the plot, as seen in Riverdale. The showrunners have already confirmed that this will happen.
I’m sure we’ll do a time jump. Ideally, we would have shot [Seasons 4 and 5] back-to-back, but there wasn’t a viable way to do it.
How big the jump will be, however, is not yet certain. At least two years seems appropriate.
Will Eddie Munson return?
Eddie, played by Joseph Quinn, moulted into a fan favourite in season 4. Perhaps even the creators did not expect the extent of his popularity. Eddie died tragically in the finale. Since then, his return has been called for, and fan theories have been spun to make it possible. After all, it wasn’t until season 4 that the series brought Hopper back, even though he seemed safely dead. Gradually, however, fans have to come to terms with Eddie’s death; the writers’ decision seems firm. Eddie will probably stay dead.
Stranger Things 5 is the last season, but there will be spin-offs afterwards
Again, we don’t know the details yet, but that Netflix will continue to mine the Stranger Things goldmine is not surprising. The Duffer brothers have already devised a spin-off idea they plan to present to their employer, Netflix. The concept is “unexpected” and “different” and will surprise everyone except for Mike actor Finn Wolfhard, who somehow guessed the idea. We can be curious! In the meantime, Netflix has also made it official: A Stranger Things spin-off is coming.
No weekly broadcast: Stranger Things in Season 5 remains a binge series
The 4th season of Stranger Things was rolled out in 2 parts. This strategy heated the rumour mill, and Netflix might move further away from the traditional binge model in the future and even air Stranger Things 5 with weekly episodes. Disney+, HBO and Amazon have been very successful with this. But Netflix won’t give away one of its key unique selling points. Netflix’s head of scripted series and movies, Peter Friedlander, ruled that out. He fears too much fan disappointment and is probably right.
So the future of Stranger Things remains exciting, even after the season finale of Season 4.
