Vin Diesel not part of “Avatar” after all. Over the past four years, the rumor that the actor will be seen in one of the sequels has persisted. But now it comes out that the “Fast and the Furious” star will not be there.

  • Since 2019, the rumor has persisted that Vin Diesel will be seen in one of the future “Avatar” films.
  • Last but not least, the actor himself corroborated these claims by giving squishy answers about his involvement in James Cameron’s “Avatar.”
  • Producer Jon Landau now puts an end to these speculations and clarifies that Diesel was never intended for the cast of “Avatar”.

Avatar” will have to do without Vin Diesel after all. After the “Fast & Furious” star intentionally or unintentionally spread false rumors about his participation in James Cameron’s “Avatar” films, they have now been refuted by producer Jon Landau. The whole thing was a big misunderstanding, he said.

The speculation about Vin Diesel’s involvement in the “Avatar” films began with a video that the actor shared on Instagram in 2019. This shows Diesel together with James Cameron on the set of “Avatar: The Way of Water”.

A comment has since led attentive fans to assume that Vin Diesel has joined the cast of the “Avatar” films.

It’s long overdue. There’s one person in Hollywood that I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from. I think all things come to those who wait.

In an interview with the US magazine “Empire“, Jon Landau now explains that Vin Diesel had come to the set of “Avatar” in 2019 as a fan. He came to see everything and left the set after only one day.

Nevertheless, the rumors after his visit did not tear off and that was not least due to the actor himself. Because this fired the rumor mill with vague statements about his appearance in “Avatar” further.

So Vin Diesel answered the question of “MTV News” whether he will be involved in the “Avatar” films with “I think it’s safe to say that we will work together”. Not a clear announcement, but for many a great indicator that Diesel will be in one of the upcoming “Avatar” film adaptations.

His statement to the U.S. magazine “Entertainment Weekly” was also interpreted by many as a clear commitment to “Avatar”. In the interview, the actor revealed that he would prefer to work with actress Zoe Saldana. She plays Neytiri in the “Avatar” films, but also Gamora in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, in which Vin Diesel lends his voice to the tree creature Groot.

So Vin Diesel has been leading numerous fans around by the nose, further reinforcing his alleged involvement in one of the future “Avatar” movies. As it comes out now, it was probably more of a big marketing stunt that may have taken on a bit of a life of its own and couldn’t be stopped.

Whether Vin Diesel will now nevertheless get a role in James Cameron’s films, contrary to all previous plans, is not ruled out, however. Production is currently underway on the next three films, which are scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026 and December 22, 2028. Enough time, then, for Diesel to still be cast in a small role.
