After Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, the next series from Westeros is coming, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is missing the fantasy show’s trademark.
Game of Thrones is over, but the journeys to Westeros are far from it. After House of the Dragon, the next fantasy series from the world of George R.R. Martin has been given the green light. It’s called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, and based on its setting, it will be the first GOT series to forgo dragons.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight: News
Yesterday WarnerBros. Discovery unveiled its new old streaming service Max and presented a number of series projects, including the Harry Potter remake, the DC series The Penguin and a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. The new Game of Thrones series was also confirmed in the process. The following information is officially confirmed (via Variety):
- The U.S. broadcaster HBO has ordered the series.
- The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s three Tales of Dunk and Egg, which were published under the title “Knight Of Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night”.
- Martin will be involved as writer and producer, along with House of the Dragon and GOT veteran producers Ira Parker, Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis.
- The title is currently A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
George R.R. Martin has not yet finished Dunk and Egg’s story in the tales. Three have been published, but the writer has flirted with six to twelve stories about the duo in the past.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Who are Dunk and Egg?
The official synopsis of the series reads as follows:
“Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes travel through Westeros: a young, naive, but brave knight – Ser Duncan the Great – and his little squire – Egg. Set in an era when the Targaryens still sit on the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon is still alive, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous adventures await these disparate and incomparable friends.”
Ser Duncan the Great is about Dunk, who grew up in the sums of King’s Landing and is making a name for himself as a masterless fighter. One day he meets a bald boy named Egg, whom he takes on as a squire. However, he has no idea that the boy is of special descent.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The series will not feature any dragons in its story
Thus, the series takes place after the events of House of the Dragon and before Game of Thrones. Therefore, it follows that dragons will be absent from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: HOTD tells how the dragons were crushed in the Targaryen War, GOT in turn tells of their resurrection by Daenerys.
It’s possible that we can expect more of a series reminiscent of the GOT dynamic of Bronn and Jaime Lannister or Bronn and Tyrion Lannister.
So far, there is no release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
