Kengan Ashura, a manga by Yabako Sandrovich with illustrations by Daromeon, was published by Shogakukan from April 2012 to August 2018. The English translation is licensed digitally by Comikey and has been compiled into 27 manga volumes and one extra.
In January 2015, Ura Sunday held a vote to decide the next manga to be animated, and Kengan Ashura won with 2.3 million votes out of 9 million. However, there was no news about the anime adaptation until two years later when it was revealed that it was still being planned. In 2018, the staff and cast were announced, and the anime finally aired on Netflix in June 2019, with the second part released three months later in October.
There is confusion among fans regarding the order of Kengan Ashura, as Netflix considers the 2019 anime to be the first season, despite dividing it into two parts. This is different from the Japanese TV schedule, and many fans believe that they are two separate seasons. To avoid confusion, we will refer to it as season 3.
