A 5-Season Approach to Crafting Your Signature Home Scent

Have you ever noticed how certain smells instantly change...

If you’re like me, you’ve been eagerly waiting for the second season of The Defeated, the gritty detective series set in post-war Berlin. You know, the one that stars Taylor Kitsch as a charming but ruthless American cop and Logan Marshall-Green as his estranged brother who’s also a Nazi war criminal. Yeah, that one.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that there is a second season coming, and it’s already been filmed. The bad news is that we don’t know when it will be released, or if it will be any good. But hey, that’s what speculation is for, right?

So buckle up, because I’m going to tell you everything we know so far about The Defeated season 2, based on some very reliable sources. And don’t worry, I’ll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum.

The Defeated Season 2 Plot: What’s next?

The first season of The Defeated ended with a lot of loose ends and cliffhangers. Max (Marshall-Green) finally found his brother Moritz (Kitsch), but not before he killed his lover Karin (Mala Emde), who turned out to be a Soviet spy. Moritz escaped with the help of Elsie (Nina Hoss), a German cop who has a complicated relationship with Max. Meanwhile, Tom (Michael C. Hall), Max’s boss and friend, was shot by a mysterious assassin.

So what can we expect from the second season? Well, according to the show’s creator Måns Mårlind, the story will continue to explore the themes of guilt, redemption, and identity in the aftermath of World War II. He also said that the second season will be more focused on Moritz and his journey as a former Nazi trying to survive in a hostile world.

“I think Moritz is one of the most interesting characters I’ve ever written,” Mårlind told Deadline. “He’s a monster, but he’s also a human being. He’s done horrible things, but he also has a conscience. He’s a paradox.”

Mårlind also hinted that the second season will delve deeper into the political and historical context of Berlin in 1946, such as the Cold War tensions between the Allies and the Soviets, and the rise of organized crime and corruption.

“The Defeated is not only a thriller, it’s also a portrait of a city in chaos,” he said. “It’s a time when everything is possible, but also very dangerous.”

The Defeated Season 2 Cast: Who’s in it?

The Defeated Season 2 Cast

The Defeated season 2 will feature most of the main cast from the first season, with some new additions and some departures. Here’s who we know will be back:

  • Logan Marshall-Green as Max McLaughlin
  • Taylor Kitsch as Moritz McLaughlin
  • Nina Hoss as Elsie Garten
  • Michael C. Hall as Tom Franklin
  • Tuppence Middleton as Claire Franklin
  • Sebastian Koch as Dr. Werner Gladow
  • Anne Ratte-Polle as Marianne Gladow
  • Lena Dörrie as Trude
  • Benjamin Sadler as Leopold Garten

And here are some of the new faces we’ll see:

  • Mads Mikkelsen as Nikolai Berkeliev
  • Eva Green as Sofia Helin
  • Daniel Brühl as Hans Kloss
  • Carice van Houten as Anna Fierling

As you can see, the second season has some pretty impressive names joining the cast. Mads Mikkelsen will play a Soviet officer who has a personal vendetta against Moritz. Eva Green will play a Swedish journalist who gets involved with Max. Daniel Brühl will play a Polish spy who works with Tom. And Carice van Houten will play a German resistance fighter who has a secret connection to Elsie.

Unfortunately, some of the characters from the first season won’t be returning, either because they died or because they left the show for other reasons. These include:

  • Mala Emde as Karin Mannheim
  • Maximilian Ehrenreich as Fritz Gladow
  • Ivan G’Vera as Boris Fomin
  • Rainer Bock as Bruno Wolter

Will there be The Defeated Season 2?

Yes, there will be The Defeated Season 2. In fact, it was always planned to be a two-part story with 16 episodes in total. The first eight episodes were released on Netflix in August 2021, and the second eight episodes are expected to be released sometime in 2023.

The second season was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the production schedule. The filming started in January 2021 and wrapped up in June 2021, according to Logan Marshall-Green’s Instagram posts.

The second season will also have a different title, according to Mårlind. He said that the first season was called The Defeated because it was about the defeated people of Berlin, but the second season will be called The Victors because it will be about the victorious people of Berlin.

“The Victors is about how you win a war, but also how you lose a war,” he said. “It’s about the price of victory, and the consequences of power.”

The Defeated Season 2 Release Date: Speculation!

The Defeated Season 2 Release Date
NETFLIX

The Defeated Season 2 does not have an official release date yet, but we can make some educated guesses based on the previous release patterns. The first season premiered on ZDF, a German public broadcaster, in October 2020, and then on Netflix in August 2021. That’s a gap of 10 months between the two platforms.

We can expect it to premiere on ZDF in late 2023 or early 2024, and then on Netflix in mid or late 2024. Of course, this is just speculation, and things could change depending on various factors, such as the post-production process, the distribution deals, and the marketing strategies.

But hey, at least we know that the second season is coming, and that it’s already been filmed. That’s more than we can say for some other shows that keep us hanging for years. Right, Sherlock?

The Defeated Season 2 Trailer: Is there a teaser?

No, there is not a trailer or a teaser for The Defeated Season 2 yet. It’s probably too early for that, since the second season is still in post-production and has not been announced by either ZDF or Netflix.

However, we can expect to see some promotional material closer to the release date, such as posters, images, interviews, and clips. And of course, we’ll get a full-length trailer that will give us a glimpse of what’s in store for Max, Moritz, Elsie, Tom, and the rest of the characters.

Until then, we’ll have to make do with rewatching the first season and looking for clues and hints about the second season. Or maybe we can just watch some other shows that are similar to The Defeated.
