After the surprisingly dramatic ending of Netflix’s new teen drama, the question is whether the story will be continued in “Royalteen 2″.
When Kalle (Mathias Storhøi) confesses his feelings to the love of his life, Lena (Ines Høysæter Asserson), at the school prom, everything looks like “all’s well that ends well” for the Netflix audience. But we may have done the math without Margrethe (Elli Rhiannon Müller Osborne), who provides a dramatic open ending and raises plenty of questions. For those longing for answers, there’s good news: Netflix has greenlit “Royalteen 2.”
When will Royalteen 2 launch on Netflix?
Although “Royalteen 2” is a done deal according to Netflix, there is no firm start date yet. The streaming service only let it be known that we can expect the sequel in 2023. Usually, the audience has to wait about a year before a sequel is available for streaming. If Netflix follows this schedule, Lena and Kalle could continue in the summer/fall of 2023.
If you like royal teen stories, you should also give “Young Royals” a chance:
At its streaming launch, “Royalteen” achieved a top 10 ranking in 56 countries, including Germany, Austria, and Norway (via FlixPatrol). Accordingly, it is no surprise that Netflix has decided to make a sequel – primarily since the film is based on the novel series of the same name by Randi Fuglehaug and Anne Gunn Halvorsen, in which four books already tell of the royal love affair. So there would even be enough material for further sequels.
How could it continue?
Attention: Spoilers for “Royalteen” follow
If you hope to anticipate a possible movie plot of “Royalteen 2” with the books, you have to be disappointed at this point. Unless you are so powerful in Spanish, French, or Norwegian, you can read the novel series in these languages, unfortunately, the second book has not yet been translated into English or German.
Nevertheless, we can give you a first taste at this point because if Netflix should adapt the second book, the sequel will start where “Royalteen” ended: Margrethe is in the hospital after her breakdown. While she knows precisely what happened, she doesn’t want to confide in anyone out of shame. While she continues to dislike Lena and Kalle’s relationship, she only longs for the great love herself. Meanwhile, the royal family has to deal with big problems. Can Lena and Kalle’s feelings survive in this chaos? After all, Margrethe still knows a secret about Lena, with which she could blackmail the girl.
Who is in “Royalteen 2”?
Provided that “Royalteen 2” follows the first film, Elli Rhiannon Muller Osborne will come into focus as Margrethe. Of course, she will continue to try to torpedo her brother’s relationship, which is why Ines Høysæter Asserson as Lena and Mathias Storhøi as Kalle is also likely to be on set. Who would be on the starting line beyond that is yet to be seen?
Whether Lena and Karl’s love can endure remains to be seen. But his performance of the song was already a good start to prove his love to his heartthrob.
