The 2nd season of Carnival Row with Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne comes to Amazon Prime and we tell you everything you need to know about the return of the fantasy series.

The fantasy series Carnival Row was released by Amazon Prime on August 30, 2019 in English. Since then, it was a matter of waiting for everyone who wanted to know how it continues with the fairy Vignette (Cara Delevingne) and Inspector Philo (Orlando Bloom). The start of season 2 is imminent and a must for fantasy fans. You can find the most important info here:

Carnival Row Season 2: Release date

Although season 2 was commissioned early on, Carnival Row fans had to wait long for the sequel. Three and a half years, to be exact, because season 2 will start on February 17, 2023, after which the episodes will always be shown weekly on Fridays on Prime. The release date announcement was simultaneously associated with some melancholy, because Amazon let it be known that Season 2 will be the last season.

The filming of Season 2 was a difficult birth: although the production of Carnival Row started back in November 2019, several involuntary breaks in filming had to be taken in the wake of the Corona pandemic. Due to the birth of his child, Orlando Bloom could not be present during reshoots. Shooting officially ended in September 2021. Post-production then needed time for special effects and the like. In addition, distance had to be kept from Amazon’s fantasy flagship, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Carnival Row Season 2: Videos, trailers and more

In a video at the start of filming for Season 2, the four main cast members revealed early on which fantasy story developments they were most looking forward to in the next season:

With the announced start, Carnival Row’s 2nd season in November 2022 also received a first short teaser trailer that brought back the main characters:

Most recently, a second longer trailer for season 2 of Carnival Row took us back to the difficult situation in the town of Burgue, where fairies are committing attacks and the mythical creatures are oppressed worse than ever:

Carnival Row Season 2 Plot: What happens next?

After plenty of deaths at the end of Season 1 and many forward-looking developments, there are some questions for Season 2 that Carnival Row must now explore in terms of its locations, terminology and creatures:

  • How does the situation in the newly formed fairy ghetto come to a head, and what does that mean for Philo and Vignette?
  • Will the violent fairy and faun resistance now resort to even more radical measures from underground?
  • What are incest half-siblings Sophie Longerbane and Jonah Breakspear planning as an ominous parliamentary alliance?
  • Do we push deeper into the land of the fairies, Tirnanoc, this time?
  • What role will the hostile “Covenant” still play?
  • After the murder series, what will be the new thread in Season 2?

Orlando Bloom revealed that he was thirsting to come to terms with his status as a “half-breed.” Cara Delevingne is expecting new characters and creatures. (Among other things, a new fairy subspecies is to appear.) In addition, we will venture into new realms on the world map of Carnival Row.

Tamzin Merchant (Imogen) hints at exciting fantasy developments at the boat’s destination with faun David Gyasi (Agreus), who in turn describes Season 2 as “exciting and scary.” The rich detail of the sets, which Orlando Bloom compared to The Lord of the Rings, will likely continue.

Carnival Row Season 2 Cast: Who else is in?

Carnival Row’s thinned ranks make way for the younger generation in season 2 without Piety, Absalom and the Haruspex witch. The main character returnees include:

  • Rycroft Philostrate, nicknamed “Philo” (Orlando Bloom) – ex-inspector, fairy half-breed, subject of a prophecy.
  • Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) – fairy, lover, fugitive
  • Imogen Spurnrose (Tamzin Merchant) – high society member, faun lover
  • Mr. Agreus (David Gyasi) – faun, Imogen’s lover, boat traveler

Already known supporting characters returning in season 2 Carnival Row:

  • Ezra Spurnrose (Andrew Gower) – Imogen’s brother, merchant.
  • Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford) – politician’s daughter, real string-puller and villainess
  • Jonah Breakspeare (Arty Froushan) – illegitimate chancellor’s son, Sophie’s brother and lover
  • Runyan Millworthy (Simon McBurney) – showman with goblins (or now without) and political advisor
  • Tourmaline Larou (Karla Crome) – fairy prostitute, Vignette’s best friend
  • Darius (Ariyon Bakare) – ex-soldier, werewolf, Philo’s friend
  • Constable Berwick (Waj Ali), policeman and Philo’s friend
  • Afissa (Tracey Wilkinson), faun maid of the Spurnroses
  • Dahlia (Chloe Pirrie), leader of the fairy resistance group Black Raven

It is already known that there will also be new additions to Amazon’s fantasy series. We already know of the following new cast members with role names, though no concrete details on their characters yet:

  • Joanne Whalley as Resistance leader Leonora (Faun).
  • Jay Ali as Black Raven fighter Kaine (Faerie)
  • Stewart Scudamore as Boz Ghaidos
  • Shane Attwooll as Admiral Nevin
  • Andrew Buchan as Pact envoy Mikulas Vir
  • Enzo Squillino Jr. as Polsted

Changes in Carnival Row Season 2

As Deadline reported in October 2019, there were major behind-the-scenes personnel changes after the first season: Daredevil producer Erik Oleson came on board as the series’ new showrunner, replacing Marc Guggenheim.

In addition, series creator Travis Beacham left after Season 1. He, on whose unfilmed script A Killing on Carnival Row was the basis for the series in the first place, left the project due to “creative differences.”

How these developments will affect Season 2, after the leadership change at Carnival Row occurred while filming the new season, remains to be seen.
