About Bungou Stray Dogs
Written by Kafka Asagiri with illustration by Sango Harukawa, Bungou Stray Dogs tells the story of the Armed Detective Agency, mainly from the perspective of Atsushi Nakajima, a weretiger who is able to turn to white tiger. Together with his team, Atsushi defended Yokohama, a city filled with individuals with Supernatural Abilities.
The ongoing seinen manga is published by the Young Ace magazine under Kadokawa Shoten since 2012. Yen Press obtained the license to publish the book in North America, with first volume in December 2016. By 2022, Bungou Stray Dogs manga passed 10 million copies in print.
Besides the original manga, Kafka and Sango is also making Bungou Stray Dogs: Wan, which was serialized in 12 episodes from January to March 2021. In 2022, Bungou Stray Dogs: Dazai, Chuya, Jugosai is published in Monthly Shonen Ace. Written by Shiwasu Hoshikawa, the manga tells the stories of Osamu Dazai from the Armed Detective Agency and Akutagawa Ryuunosuke from Port Mafia.
The series also received movies adaptation. Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple was released in 2018 which takes place after the events of the second season. Besides animation, Bungou Stray Dogs The Movie: Beast was also released as a live-action movie, based on the light novel spin-off by Shiwasu Hoshikawa which spanned from December 2019 to January 2022.
Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5 Release Date
Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 ran from January to March 2023. On 29 March 2023, the staff for the Bungou Stray Dogs anime announced that the anime will be renewed for the fifth season. It scheduled to air in July 2023. Here is the trailer for the fifth season:
Story of Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5
(Spoiler Alert) Previously in Season 4, a terrorist group called “The Decay of Angels” obtained The Book, a powerful tools able to make anything written on it become reality. As the Agency has been framed as “terrorist group”, Atsushi and his team has to escape the Military Police’s most powerful force, The Hunting Dogs.
Therefore, Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5 will show how the Armed Detective Agency attempt to turn the table, track down the page of the Book, and stop The Decay of Angels which is led by Kamui. However, the struggle will not be easy as the whole world is hunting the Agency.
From the trailer, the leader of the Hunting Dogs, Ochi Fukuchi, is speaking before the United Nations about the imminent threat after the events of the Sky Casino Arc. While Kunikida Doppo and Akiko Yosano have been captured by Hunting Dogs, Ranpo Edogawa is seen returning to the series with the goal to prove the Agency’s innocence.
Moreover, the fifth season also sees the return of Akutagawa Ryuunosuke (as shown by the end of the trailer) after not appearing for Season 4. Therefore, it piqued the interest of the fans to know where Akutagawa had been.
Production of Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5
Since the first season, the animation studio Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist, Eureka Seven, Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, My Hero Academia) handles the anime. Takuya Igarashi returns to direct the fifth season. Moreover, Youji Enokido also comes back as the screenwriter and Taku Iwasaki as the music composer.
