Kitty’s adventure in South Korea is now over. But does that also apply to the Netflix series or will “XO, Kitty” get a sequel?
In the “To All The Boys” film series on Netflix, we got to know Lara Jean’s little sister Kitty and took her straight to our hearts. In the new spin-off series “XO, Kitty,” which, by the way, was co-directed by the author of the book originals (available here on Amazon) Jenny Han, we grew to love the youngest Covey sister, who is now almost an adult herself and in the middle of her own romantic drama, all the more. Kitty’s semester abroad at KISS in Seoul, South Korea is now over, but Season 1 ends with numerous cliffhangers that have us eagerly awaiting XO, Kitty Season 2. XO, Kitty Season 2: Will there be a sequel?
The bad news first: So far there is no confirmation for season 2 of “XO, Kitty”. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be a sequel, after all, the series only launched on Netflix on May 18. It usually takes a while before the streaming service gives the green light for another season, as it depends largely on the success of the first season in the weeks following its launch.
However, the fact that “XO, Kitty” has already made it into the top 10 most popular series on Netflix is definitely a positive sign. Should the spin-off be able to halfway match the success of the original film series around Lara Jean, a sequel is very likely.
The ending of “XO, Kitty” also formally promises a second season. While we learn in the series that Lara Jean and Peter are still happy together, things are a bit more difficult for her little sister Kitty when it comes to love. Her soul-searching in Seoul is definitely not over yet. So at least temporarily, Kitty could return to South Korea. The KISS adventure is certainly not over yet.
XO, Kitty Season 2 Release Date: When will sequel launch on Netflix?
Of course, since the sequel has not been confirmed yet, there is no start date set for XO, Kitty Season 2. It’s hard to say when new episodes of “XO, Kitty” will come to Netflix, as this depends on how quickly season 2 is confirmed and the series goes into production. Even if this happens quickly, the production of the sequel could possibly be affected by the currently ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood. In the best case scenario, however, we can expect season 2 in the spring of 2024 if the sequel is announced in a timely manner.

During her time in Seoul, Kitty (Anna Cathcart) experiences virtually an entire high school life of drama within a few months on a semester abroad. The end of season 1 holds many twists and surprises for us: Dae (Minyeong Choi) and Kitty are no longer together. Although Kitty passes her final exams, she is expelled from KISS for misconduct and travels back to Portland. Meanwhile, while Kitty has feelings for Yuri (Gia Kim) but couldn’t reveal them because of Juliana’s (Regan Aliyah) return, Min-Ho (Han Chae Young) suddenly confesses his feelings to her on the flight back. Thus, the emotional chaos in the form of a love quadrangle is perfect. And then there’s Kitty’s discovery of her mother’s first great love… In XO, Kitty Season 2, Kitty will come to terms with her feelings and will probably have to return to South Korea sooner or later to clear everything up.

So there are more than enough plotlines for new episodes. Unlike the “To All The Boys” series, there are no novel templates for “XO, Kitty.” However, given the many possibilities, it should be no problem for Jenny Han to further expand Kitty’s story. In addition to her role as co-showrunner, the author has also written the scripts for the series episodes.
