The Witcher season 3 faces a big challenge. After the breach of trust with Yennefer in season 2 of the Netflix series, the new episodes must now make up for it.
- “The Witcher” faces a big challenge in season 3.
- At the end of season 2, Geralt and Ciri’s relationship with the sorceress Yennefer was more than disturbed after she betrayed them both.
- A major deviation from the novel, which will be cleared up in the coming episodes by the reunion at the Belleteyn festival.
Soft torchlight dances across the lace-covered face of Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) as she attends the Belleteyn Feast with Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Ciri (Freya Allan) at the beginning of Season 3 of “The Witcher.” Their joint participation in the fertility festival is meant to strengthen the severely damaged bond between the sorceress, the wizard and the princess.
Yennefer almost sold Ciri to a demon in season 2 of the Witcher saga in order to restore her magic. A decision that did not go down well with fans of the Netflix series, because it deviates from what author Andrzej Sapkowski intended for Yennefer in his novel series.
In an interview with the U.S. magazine “Entertainment Weekly” showrunner Lauren Hissrich and Yennefer actress Anya Chalotra explain how they want to straighten out this break in the upcoming 3rd season.
Hissrich came directly to mind the famous Belleteyn, which is the event of many gatherings in the books. During the festival, both Yennefer and Ciri were born. Now it is to celebrate the “romantic reconnections” of Geralt and Yennifer.
It’s moments like this that led showrunner Hissrich to base The Witcher Season 3 solely on content from the second Witcher novel, “The Time of Contempt.” While the previous seasons only roughly followed the novel, The Witcher Season 3 is expected to be much more faithful to the original.
In the midst of pivotal events like the Thanedd Uprising, a battle between wizards and sorcerers, The Belleteyn Feast is meant to give us quieter moments and evoke important character development.
In the new season, the Witcher’s unusual family will finally become as close as they have long been in the books. For example, Geralt takes his vow of neutrality because he realizes that he needs and wants his family. Yennefer comes to terms more with her role as a mother during this time, while training Ciri in magic in Aretuza.
This character development of all the characters in the series is the catalyst for Ciri coming to terms with herself even more. She decides who she wants to be as a result.
The third season of “The Witcher” will be released in two parts. The first five episodes will be released on June 29, 2023, followed by the final three on July 27, 2023.
