In “Star Trek: Picard” season 3 there is an inevitable recasting: The on-board computer of the Enterprise and the other starships of Starfleet needs a new voice.

  • For “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3, the team will have to come up with something new when it comes to the Enterprise’s on-board computer.
  • The starships set in the time of Picard and Co. were all voiced by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.
  • In the meantime, the wife of the “Star Trek” creator has passed away. Terry Matalas talks about the new cast.

In “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3, not only the crew from “Starship Enterprise – The Next Century” returns, but also the U.S.S. Enterprise itself. But the starship’s on-board computer will (have to) have some new features, because the computer’s original voice unfortunately can’t return for “Star Trek: Picard.”

Since “The Next Century” (TNG), Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the now deceased wife of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, voiced the on-board computers of Starfleet starships. She made her last appearance in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” in 2009.

Since then, the starship computer has been voiced by various stars. Particularly prominent voice actors include “Barry” star Bill Hader as the computer of the U.S.S. Vengeance in “Star Trek Into Darkness” and Annabelle Wallis in “Star Trek: Discovery.” But who will take over the part in the final “Star Trek: Picard” season?

Of course, with such an iconic starship as the Enterprise, it’s hard to offer fans a new voice that’s satisfying. Fortunately, the Enterprise will emerge as a new model, U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-F, making a new on-board computer make sense.

But since Majel Barrett is not so easily replaced, there will not be just one voice. Showrunner Terry Matalas takes to Twitter to address the question of who will become the new on-board computer.

“There are different voices. One for civilian ships and one for Starfleet. All will be revealed soon,” Matalas writes. So we eagerly await further revelations about the new episodes, which start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on February 17, 2023.

But new stories from the “Star Trek” universe are not only available in Amazon Prime Video’s new releases program, but also on Paramount+.
