For nearly eight years, Seraph of the End Season 3 is long-awaited by the fans. However, since there is no confirmation about it, will it ever happen? This is all the information you should know about the third season of Seraph of the End.

About Seraph of the End

Seraph of the End or Owari no Serafu is a manga written by Takaya Kagami with illustrations by Yamato Yamamoto and Daisuke Furuya on storyboards. The ongoing manga is published by Shueisha’s Jump Square (SQ) since September 2012, while VIZ Media licensed the English version of the manga for North America release later added to its Weekly Shonen Jump. As of February 2023, Seraph of the End has reached 29 volumes.

The manga is set in a world ravaged by a human-made virus wiping out the global populace, yet leaving the 13-year-old children unharmed. However, in this world, vampires emerge and subdue the remnants of humanity in the guise of their protectors. The remaining humans have to unknowingly “donate” their blood to these vampires.

The story revolves around Yuichiro Hyakuya who was saved from Hyakuya Orphanage by the Moon Demon Company, a vampire extermination unit. Therefore, Hyakuya decided to dedicate his life to avenging his family and rescuing his best friend, Mikaela.

Will there be Seraph of the End Season 3?

In August 2014, Shueisha announced in the Jump SQ that Seraph of the End is getting an anime adaptation that would air on 4 April 2015. Produced by Wit Studio, Takaya Kagami personally handled the original story with Daisuke Tokudo as the director and Hiroshi Seko as its screenwriter.

In December 2014, the anime is announced to be divided into two cours with a total of 24 episodes. In March 2015, Funimation licensed the anime to air in North America, with Hulu to follow suit. In the United Kingdom, Viceland broadcasts the anime. The first cour aired from April to June 2015, and the second from October to December of the same year. To reminisce about the goodness of the anime, here is the trailer of the Seraph of the End!

Almost eight years since the end of the second cour of the anime, will there be a third season or cour for Seraph of the End? Sadly, there have been no official talks or confirmations about Seraph of the End Season 3. The most possible reason is that the first two cours already covered the chapters penned by Kagami, hence there is no material.

Seraph of the End Season 3 Release Date: Speculation!

Since then, Kagami has drafted over 40 fresh Seraph of the End manga chapters. Fortunately, the chapters were completed in 2019, hence the materials for the Seraph of the End Season 3. The question now revolves around “when” rather than “if”. However, Wit Studio and the Seraph of the End anime team remain clammed up about the possibility of the third cour.

It is widely known that Wit Studio has been busy. The studio rose to stardom after animating Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Vinland Saga, Ranking of Kings, to Spy x Family. Busy with the latter two, it seems like Wit Studio doesn’t have time yet to work on Seraph of the End Season 3. While it is normal for an animation studio to take breaks between series, the enthusiasm for Seraph of the End Season 3 might fuel the spirit for Wit Studio and the team to finally work on the third cour.

While there are no talks about the date yet, there is a big possibility that Seraph of the End Season 3 might be announced in 2023. While waiting, besides the two cours of the anime, Seraph of the End also has a 23-minute original video animation (OVA) titled Seraph of the End: Vampire Shahal, released in 2016.

Production of Seraph of the End Season 3

For Seraph of the End Season 3, there is a big possibility that Wit Studio will be responsible for the anime. Despite no confirmation, Daisuke Tokudo might be returning as the director and Hiroshi Seko as the screenwriter. The casts for the anime might also remain the same:

  • Shinoa Hiiragi: Saori Hayami
  • Yuichiro Hyakuya: Miyu Irino
  • Guren Ichinose: Yuuichi Nakamura
  • Mitsuba Sanguu: Yuka Iguchi
  • Krul Tepes: Aoi Yuuki
  • Shihou Kimizuki: Kaito Ishikawa
  • Mikaela Hyakuya: Kensho Ono

Potential Story for Seraph of the End Season 3

Seraph of the End Season 3
@NBCUniversal Anime/Music

(Spoiler Alert) If Seraph of the End season 3 happens, what will be the story? Season 1 tells how Yuichiro adapts to the Moon Demon Company with the major moment being when he found Mikaela who now has been turned into a vampire by Tepes.

Season 2 or Battle in Nagoya (Nagoya Kessen-hen) also unveiled the dark secret of the leader of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, Kureto Hiragi, who actually has been experimenting on Yuichiro’s comrade, Kimizuki Mirai. Hiragi then summons the demon Abaddon, yet Yuichiro transforms into a Seraph and turns Abaddon and many vampires into pillars of salt. While Yuichiro and his comrades manage to escape, they vow to rescue Mirai, and that is the end of Season 2.

If the anime remains truthful to Kagami’s source, then Seraph of the End Season 3 might introduce high-ranking vampires from all around the world traveling to Japan to handle the uprising. Moreover, the story will also continue on Hiragi’s heinous plan for world domination.
