The wrestling drama “Heels” officially receives a 2nd season from US channel Starz. “Vikings” star Alexander Ludwig and “Arrow” lead actor Stephen Amell are also back. After a long wait, the official start date for the new episodes has finally been revealed.
When does Heels Season 2 start?
Finally Starz has revealed the official date for the return of “Heels”. Season 2 will return to the US pay TV channel’s schedule on Friday, July 28, 2023.
During an interview for Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast “Inside of You,” Stephen Amell spoke out about the ongoing delay of Heels Season 2. The series star was able to clarify why the series didn’t continue earlier.
According to Amell, the start of “Heels” season 2 was delayed by the separation of the companies Lionsgate and Starz. While this occurred back in 2016, both parties are still in the process of “unraveling” the partnership today. This complex process probably has the consequence that the start of the new “Heels” episodes has so far fallen somewhat by the wayside.
Heels Season 2: Is there already a trailer?
There is currently no trailer for the 2nd season “Heels”. However, with the announcement of the new episodes for the summer of 2023, lead actor Stephen Amell released a short clip in which the two brothers Jack and Ace can be seen before they became adversaries.
Storyline of Heels Season 2
At the end of the first season, Jack (Amell) and Ace Spade (Ludwig) were able to avert disaster and the DWL remains. However, this is less on them and more on Crystal (Keli Berglund). She not only won the big wrestling event, but also the hearts of the fans.
But even though Jack and Ace’s father’s legacy – the wrestling league DWL – remains, Jack is pretty much on his own as his wife Staci is fed up with him and his toxic relationship with his brother. After all, this dynamic between the two brawlers has nearly cost the DWL many times.
DWL gives many residents of Jack and Ace’s hometown hope for a better future. Most of all, of course, it revolves around wrestling dreams. In season 2, their ability to continue their father’s legacy is certainly called into question and they face the consequences of their actions, after all, the brothers were last seen literally butting heads.
In the new episodes, Jack will now have to work hard for Ace’s forgiveness and trust. He also has to convince his wife Staci that he now puts his family first. At the same time, there’s also his rival Charlie Gully, who certainly won’t give up easily in his efforts to bring down the DWL.
Wild Bill will also have to win back the recognition of his fans after his faux pas during the State Fair, and Rooster is faced with the decision of whether to continue to stay with Gully at Florida Wrestling Dystopia or return to DWL.
Heels Season 2: Cast
Also back in Heels Season 2 are Stephen Amell (“Arrow”) as Jack Spade and Alexander Ludwig (“The Tributes of Panem,” “Vikings”) as Ace Spade. Also joining the cast are Alison Luff as Staci Spade, Mary McCormack as Willie Day, Kelli Berglund as Crystal Tyler, Allen Maldonado as Rooster Robbins, two-time Super Bowl champion James Harrison as Apocalypse, Roxton Garcia as Thomas Spade and Chris Bauer as Wild Bill Hancock.
Audience favorites Trey Tucker as Bobby Pin and Robby Ramos as Diego Cottonmouth now get supporting roles in the new episodes.
Heels Season 2: Production
Mike O’Malley (“Shameless”) returns for season two as showrunner, executive producer and in his acting role as Charlie Gully. The series was created and written by Michael Waldron (“Loki,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”), who also serves as executive producer.
